Heavy rainfall has seen roads flooded all over the county – causing chaos for drivers.

The weather has led to roads being closed, blocked and flooded which has resulted in traffic and congestion building in these areas.

Major routes have been significantly impacted since the early hours of the morning (Thursday, January 14) with drivers sitting in traffic and some having to call 999 after getting into difficulty.

Roads in St Albans, Stevenage, Sawbirdgeworth and Cheshunt, Hertfordshire, have been flooded with some being closed by emergency services.

Herts Fire and Rescue have also sent out a warning to drivers due to the conditions on the roads making it unsafe to drive.

Motorways have also been affected with lanes on the M25 and A1(M) being shut due to flooding.

Here’s everything we know so far including all the roads that are affected, closed and blocked.

What roads are closed or flooded?

Roads across the county have been significantly affected since the early hours of this morning.

The first road emergency services responded to was a country lane in St Albans during the early hours. A car got into difficulty and the fire service had to be called to rescue the driver safely.

Martins Way in Stevenage has also been closed since this morning. The road is prone to flooding and is closed in both directions causing traffic in the area.

Throughout the day, parts of the M25 have also been impacted by the flooding – a lane near J25 was shut and remains shut due to water on the surface.

In Potters Bar, Warrengate Lane is closed due to flooding and is closed from Mutton Lane to Swanland Road.

In Baldock, the A507 Clothall Road is closed in both directions and so is the A1184 London Road, Spellbrook at Spellbrook Lane West.

In Hatfield Broad Oak, parts of Hammonds Road is submerged. So is a number of roads in Much Hadam which should not be used.

A lorry is stuck with it’s back wheels full submerged in the deep water. Pictures show the water level over the road is at 5 feet.

Most recently, Munden Road to the A602 is closed due to flooding and Primrose Hill is also submerged.
